Funded Outward Bound courses for disabled people – enrolments open

The number of adapted courses run at Outward Bound has doubled and they have welcomed disabled students onto 12 courses.

Students have shared adventures together, challenged themselves, and supported each other in their personal journeys to greater confidence, resilience and connection.

Enrolments are now open for courses from November 2023 through to May 2024.

Youth Horizons (1621 years) – for school-aged (16 to 21yrs) persons with an intellectual disability.

  • When: 6–11 January 2024
  • Funding: fully funded for participants


Horizons (18+) – for persons with an intellectual disability over the age of 18.

  • When: 4–11 November 2023 or 2–9 February 2024 or 18–25 May 2024
  • Funded: funding is available for Horizons students who meet eligibility criteria.


Activate (18+) – for persons 18+ with a physical or visual impairment. There is accommodation for two participants who use manual wheelchairs.

  • When: 17–24 November 2023 or 15–22 February 2024
  • Funding: available for Activate students who meet eligibility criteria


Leaps and Bounds Activate (1316 years with a parent/caregiver) – a course for physically disabled youth (13 to 16yrs) and a parent/caregiver or other significant adult.

  • When: 7–14 April 2024
  • Funding: fully funded for participants.


Youth Activate(16–18 years) – for 16–18 year olds with a physical or visual impairment. There is  accommodation for two participants who use manual wheelchairs.

  • When: 20–27 April 2024
  • Funding: fully funded for participants

Are you interested in being a volunteer support worker on an adapted course?

There is an opportunity for volunteers to support adapted students on some of the adapted courses. Outward Bound are currently seeking expressions of interest for the first half of 2024.
