Equal Voices Arts is a Deaf and hearing theatre company based in Kirikiriroa Hamilton that also works nationally.
Thanks to a grant through the Ministry for Culture and Heritage Innovation Fund, Equal Voices Arts will be running a two-year pilot programme to provide accessible workshops and training opportunities specially designed for D/deaf artists and those in the Deaf community who are interested in performance and making original performance works.
Through the grant, Equal Voices Art can train more D/deaf artists, and provide more opportunities for Deaf stories to be shared with both D/deaf and hearing audiences.
They are currently designing a programme of workshops led by professional international Deaf artists and allies who have a depth of experience working alongside and in collaboration with Deaf artists.
All workshops will be culturally and linguistically tailored for the Deaf community, and will focus more on visual and physical storytelling, and creative explorations of NZSL.
