DPA vacancy – Policy Advisor (Auckland)


20 hours per week
Located in Auckland

We are seeking a Policy Advisor who will be responsible for researching, developing and submitting policy advice for DPA to both central government agencies and local government organisations in the northern regions of Aotearoa New Zealand (including Auckland and north of Auckland).

The Policy Advisor (Auckland) will work with the DPA Policy Team to build relationships with key stakeholders, ensuring the voice of disabled people is listened to and represented effectively, influencing policy that has a direct or indirect impact on the lives of disabled people.

The skills and experience required for the job include:

  • proven experience in developing policy and submissions
  • well-developed analytical and strategic skills
  • ability to design and successfully implement projects, and
  • experience working with central and/or local government agencies.

We are keen to hear from people who, in addition to the skills and experience required for the job, also have:

  • understanding of and commitment to a disability rights approach 
  • knowledge and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the United Nations Convention on the Right of Persons with Disability, and
  • personal experience of disability and/or identifies as a disabled person.

About the Disabled Persons Assembly (DPA) NZ

As a pan-impairment disabled people’s organisation (DPO), we work closely with our members and the wider disability community with the collective aim of creating systemic change for the equity of disabled people.

We are a small, vibrant, and enthusiastic team of predominantly disabled people from across Aotearoa New Zealand. Along with our supportive work environment, our team also benefits from working flexible hours and access to disability leave.
