In our submission, we recommend that the Firearms Prohibition Orders Legislation Amendment Bill be withdrawn, and that that firearms license holders, firearms dealers and visitors’ licenses have more stringent regulations around the people they issue firearms to.
We also ask that disabled people are considered as a key stakeholder with a direct interest in this issue, as according to statistics, disabled people are at higher risk of being subjected to gun violence and people in our disabled community are also at disproportionate risk of violence from non-disabled people not necessarily connected with gangs.
