DPA regional submissions (Māngere and surrounding neighbourhoods, Wellington, Canterbury)

DPA have made several regional submissions over the past month:

Area Plans Review for Māngere and surrounding neighbourhoods

DPA welcomes this plan as one that will helpfully drive the Māngere - Ōtāhuhu community’s sustainable development over the next decades. As the area faces up to the challenge of bridging the issues created by greater social and economic inequity, climate change and demographic change, it is important that the voices of disabled people in the area are heard in all decisions which impact on it.

Wellington City Council Open Spaces and Recreation Policy 2022

DPA welcomes the intended vision for this plan and hopes that it will lead to the creation of fully universally designed, inclusive and accessible open spaces and recreational programmes within Wellington. If this is done, then everyone, including disabled people who are currently excluded from fully accessing many places and recreational programmes, will be able to freely access the city’s many beautiful open spaces and recreational opportunities.

Environment Canterbury Draft Annual Plan 2022/23

DPA sees much to commend in this year’s annual plan. The transport and climate change initiatives will have positive long-term impacts for disabled people if fully implemented. DPA recommends that Council adopt the proposal for targeted fare free travel and recommend that it be extended to other locations throughout Canterbury, especially with respect to Total Mobility.
