'Disability Activism in New Zealand' up for award at Short Film Festival
Voting is open for the 2023 Focus on Ability™ Short Film Festival. This year, New Zealand film, 'Disability Activism in New Zealand’ by Access Matters Aotearoa is a contender for Best International Documentary.
The film shows the journey of disability activists in Aotearoa New Zealand, campaigning for a more inclusive and accessible society. The documentary showcases the passion, determination and unwavering spirit, as the disabled community delivered the Access Matters Aotearoa petition to Parliament in Wellington, calling for a strong Accessibility for New Zealanders Bill.

To be a part of the festival, entrants make a short film or documentary that is less than 5 minutes long, has a disability theme or has people with disability as the main actors.
This year's entries include other New Zealand films 'Callus', by Juliana Carvalho, 'Hoops' by Glass Ceiling Collective, and 'Camp EPIC YAAY', by Natt McLean and Abi Pratt.
