Accessibility and heavy rainfall research - call for Christchurch participants
A University of Canterbury research project is looking at how heavy rainfall may impact the way that disabled people travel.
The research is being conducted by Emily Ward for her Master of Urban Resilience and Renewal (within the geography programme) in partnership with Christchurch City Council. It is funded by Waka Kotahi (New Zealand Transport Agency), New Zealand Transportation Group and the HOPE Foundation for Aging Research.
Emily would like to hear from disabled people about the barriers that can be faced when travelling to their regular destinations during and after heavy rainfall.
The participants she is seeking are:
- Disabled people, including older persons who are residents in Ōtautahi - Christchurch
- Over 18
- Willing to participate in an interview (as a group or individual)
A koha (voucher) will be given to interviewees.
If you are interested in participating, there is more information about the heavy rainfall study and you can register your interest online. (Please note this page mentions that participants need to have a physical impairment, however Emily has opened it up to us to include all disabled people.)
You can also call Emily on 027 287 4948 to arrange an interview.
The closing date for registering is 12 August.
